North Alabama Newborn Nurse for You is all about bringing the nurturing expertise of a postpartum nurse directly to your home.
My mission is to ensure you receive the personalized care and support you need during this special time. My passion for postpartum and newborn care stems from both my professional experience and personal journey as a mother. I began my career working overnight in the Mother/Baby unit at Huntsville Hospital, which handles the highest number of births in Alabama and is home to the only Level III NICU in North Alabama. In addition to my work on the Mother/Baby unit, I frequently floated to the NICU, gaining valuable experience in specialized neonatal care. I had the privilege of caring for and educating new parents on how to care for themselves and their newborns after birth. While I cherished this special time with families, I often felt constrained by the limited time I had with them and longed to provide more comprehensive support than just the 1 or 2 nights in the hospital.
This combination of experiences, along with my own postpartum journey, highlighted a significant gap in postpartum and newborn support—both in education and in hands-on, physical, and emotional care. This realization inspired me to start North Alabama Newborn Nurse, allowing families to bring home the nurturing expertise of a postpartum nurse and feel confident and supported during this critical time. With training in both birth and postpartum doula practices and certification as a Lactation Counselor, I offer a holistic and well-rounded approach to postpartum and newborn care beyond my nursing experience.
My diverse background enriches my approach to care. Originally from Connecticut, I joined the Air Force, where I served as an aircraft mechanic (crew chief) on the B1 bomber. Alongside my nursing degree, I hold an AS in Aviation Maintenance and a BS in Earth Systems Science, which included unique opportunities to work with NASA during my studies. This extensive experience shapes my approach to supporting diverse families. Throughout my career, I've worn many hats, but becoming a parent illuminated my true calling in supporting new families. My greatest joy comes from educating parents on postpartum care and newborn well-being.
I believe every family deserves the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions tailored to their unique needs and desires.
